MÖTLEY CRÜE Recruits STREET DRUM CORPS' FRANK ZUMMO For Next Three Shows
August 21, 2009MÖTLEY CRÜE has tapped longtime friend and fan Frank Zummo (STREET DRUM CORPS) to fill in for drummer Tommy Lee at the following shows:
Aug. 21 - Virginia Beach, VA @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Aug. 22 - Bristow, VA @ Nissan Pavilion
Aug. 23 - Raleigh, NC @ TWC Music Pavilion
Commented Zummo: "The first concert I ever saw was MÖTLEY CRÜE when I was a kid, and I've been a big fan ever since. It is a huge honor for to drum with one of the greatest rock bands, and filling in for Tommy will be one of the most amazing experiences of my life!"
Zummo recently spent time in the studio with STREET DRUM CORPS (S.D.C.) bandmates Bobby Alt and Adam Alt working on the group's debut double album, due out early 2010 via Interscope Records.
SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose stepped in for Lee at MÖTLEY CRÜE's last five dates — August 14 at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; August 15 at Clarkston, Michigan's DTE Energy Music Theatre; August 16 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Post-Gazette Pavilion; August 18 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey; and August 19 at the Comcast Center Event in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
Lee was forced to miss the last week's worth of Crüe Fest 2 shows after burning his left hand while playing with a set of sparklers.
Lee, his left thumb and forefinger wrapped in bandages, is still taking part in the shows, coming on first to explain his absence, then to hand a bottle of Jagermeister to the crowd and, during the encores, play piano on "Home Sweet Home" and thump on a drum with his right hand for "Girls, Girls, Girls", according to Billboard.com.
The last time Lee was forced to sit out a MÖTLEY CRÜE gig was June 12, 2007 when he was he recovering from another arm ailment. EVANESCENCE/DARK NEW DAY drummer Will Hunt filled in for Lee at that show, although Tommy did manage to take to the kit for one number — the immortal "Kickstart My Heart".
